Costa Mesa Historical Markers

Newport_Boulevard,_Costa_Mesa,_1950sI’ve always enjoyed studying history.  I believe the history of a place is important because it allows us to understand our collective past, which in turn allows to understand our present.

If we want to know how and why our city is the way it is today, it is a good idea to look to history.  Looking back at the history of our city can provide us with insight into our cultures of origin as well as cultures with which we might be less familiar, thereby increasing cross-cultural awareness and understanding.

The historical post card to the left is a photograph taken on Newport Boulevard in the 1950s. If you love collecting post cards, you may actually have an original card from this era in your collection.

Today,  visitors and residents can find historical markers along Newport Blvd in Costa Mesa.  They offer a glimpse back at Costa Mesa’s rich history.

Thanks to the Costa Mesa Historical Preservation Committee, the first phase of the historical markers project help keep current Costa Mesa connected to the past.
