FOLEY ENDORSED FOR RE-ELECTION BY 7 FORMER MAYORS--FIRST TIME 7 MAYORS UNITE FOR ONE CANDIDATE

Costa Mesa, CA, October 6, 2008

In a strong showing of bipartisan support, seven former Costa Mesa Mayors announced their support of Katrina Foley’s re-election campaign. The seven are Former Mayor and OCTA Vice Chairman Peter Buffa, Mayor Sandy Genis, Mayor Libby Cowan, Mayor Linda Dixon, Mayor Joe Erickson, Mayor and OC Community College Trustee Mary Hornbuckle, and Mayor and Planning Commission Chairman Don Hall.

Commenting of the unprecedented group endorsement, Former Mayor Peter Buffa commented that this was “ ...the first time in my memory that all of us have united around a single candidate for City Council. We represent different neighborhoods, different political parties and different approaches to local government but we are united in our support of Katrina. She’s doing a great job.”

Former Mayor Sandy Genis said …"I have lived in Costa Mesa since I was seven, and it has not been until the last couple of years that I have ever seriously considered moving elsewhere. I am endorsing Katrina Foley because of the actions of our current council majority that I do not think are in the long term interests of the Costa Mesa citizenry and our quality of life.”

Genis continued… “I believe that their choices on a number of matters have been fiscally irresponsible, making it difficult, if not impossible, for future councils to address our infrastructure needs."

Foley also has recently been endorsed by the Costa Mesa Firefighters and the Costa Mesa Police Officers Associations.

Foley has served four years as a council member, and was previously a five-year veteran of the Costa Mesa Planning Commission. She is currently one of 9 candidates running for three seats for the City Council election on November 4, 2008.

BALLOT STATEMENT FOR NOVEMBER 4, 2008 RE-ELECTION CAMPAIGN

I am honored to serve as your City Councilmember. I request your support to continue my work on behalf of the citizens of Costa Mesa.

My family cares about Costa Mesa. My husband Casey is a teacher and volunteer coach. We’re Mesa del Mar homeowners with two sons attending our neighborhood school. We help our PTA and neighborhood association. I serve on the Costa Mesa United Foundation that helped build the new Scott Stadium.

I am a businessowner and partner in my law firm. Before my election to the City Council, I was a Planning Commissioner known as a defender of neighborhood integrity.

As your Councilmember, I kept my pledge and will continue to:

Make public safety my top priority.

Lead the effort to eliminate gangs and support police efforts to target high crime areas.

Oppose the expansion of John Wayne Airport.

Protect our neighborhoods from traffic and encroaching development, maintain a balanced budget so we can create more parks, and build senior housing, bike trails and safe roads.

Experience and balanced leadership is necessary to plan for our future. We have a lot of work ahead. Business as usual won't do.

Together, let’s make Costa Mesa great for families!
